A Carol Service for Epiphany

Festival of Lessons & Carols

Watch our 2020 service

If you missed our Carol Service this year, there’s still an opportunity to watch last year’s service on our YouTube channel.

Because of pandemic regulations in force at the time, the congregation was prohibited from singing. Usually the church is packed for this service but this time seating was limited so that social distancing could be observed.  That apart, this is a traditional celebration and a telling of the Christmas story through a series of readings from the prophecy of the Messiah’s birth to the story of the birth itself and the visits of shepherds and the wise men. The sequence culminates with the Prologue to St John’s Gospel: The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.

The readings, read by representatives from the local community, are interspersed with some much-loved carols as well as some less familiar ones, sung by singers from our choir at St John’s
