Ash Wednesday

Christ the King

Sunday 26th November

The Sunday before Advent is a celebration of the Feast of Christ the King.  Not for Him the panoply and trappings of power. It is the agony of his death on a cross that reveals the extent of his majesty.  On Sunday 26th November there is a sung service of  Parish Communion at 0930 led by the Revd Simon Evans. Hymns include Crown him with many crowns and Christ triumphant. Other music by Malcolm Archer, William Byrd and Jéhan Alain.

This particular Sunday is also known as Stir up Sunday – named after ones of the special prayers used today (below). Time to start stirring ingredients for Christmas puddings too!

The Collect for Christ the King
Eternal Father, whose Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord and King: keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of peace, and bring the whole created order to worship at his feet; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Post Communion Prayer
Stir up, O Lord, the wills of your faithful people; that they, plenteously bringing forth the fruit of good works, may by you be plenteously rewarded; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
