The Choir
the joy of singing!
St John’s Choir is a group of singers drawn from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from farming and medicine to the legal profession and the music industry itself. The main work of the choir comes at Parish Communion on three Sunday mornings in the month, with the singing of hymns and psalms, a communion setting and anthem.
In addition, the choir sings Choral Evensong on the third Sunday evening of the month. This service at the end of the day is much loved all over the world, not only for its language which follows the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, but for its end of the day devotional atmosphere. Usually the musical elements include an introit, responses, psalm, canticles and an anthem.
The choir also sings at a number of special services throughout the year, including Ascension Day and Ash Wednesday, as well as during Holy Week, Easter and, of course, Christmas.
Choir rehearsals are often followed by a visit to a local pub and there is also an opportunity for family to join the choir in occasional social events.
New singers are always welcome, so please get in touch with Stuart Robinson if you’d like to join us.
