Lammas in Dinton
Sunday 30th July: 1100
You are invited to an All-Age Communion service for Lammas at Dinton Recreation Ground on Sunday 30th July at 1100. There is no service in St John’s that day.
President: The Revd Elaine Brightwell
Preacher: Canon Judy Anderson
This is an annual event when all congregations and village communities in Nadder Valley Benefice come together for a joint outdoor service. Lammas is a mediaeval festival to mark the first fruits of harvest with a specially baked loaf of bread used for communion. Taken from the Anglo-Saxon Hlafmaesse, the Lammas ceremony ceased at the Reformation in the 16th century, although a reference to Lammas Day continued in the Book of Common Prayer calendar. The practice has been revived in recent years.
Do come – and bring a picnic to eat together after the service. We would encourage you to car-share where possible, and we ask you please to leave the parking spaces in St Mary’s Road for those who are less mobile.
